The following can be signs of sensory processing concerns.

  • Touch sensitivity: bothered by clothing, hair care, grooming, shoes, fabrics, etc.
  • Sound sensitivity: bothered by everyday sounds, background sounds, parties, etc.
  • Distracted by sounds nearby
  • Overwhelmed in busy environments
  • Sensory overload
  • Poor handwriting, coloring, or scissor skills
  • Excessive movement seeking
  • Poor coordination
  • Avoidance/discomfort with movement activities
  • Poor body awareness – rough, clumsy, drops/spills items
  • Poor balance, trips, falls off chair
  • Difficulty sitting in chair
  • Fears heights, elevators, or escalators
  • Uncomfortable with head tilted back
  • Difficulty with clothing fasteners or shoelace tying
  • Licks or chews on non-food items
  • Excessive seeking of touch input

  • Discomfort with clothing, showers, or hair care
  • Difficulty sitting in a chair
  • Seeks large amounts of strong movement
  • Fears heights, open stairs
  • Avoidance/discomfort with movement activities
  • Difficulty driving or merging into traffic
  • Difficulty with coordinated movement
  • Trips falls, poor spatial awareness
  • Too much or too little force for activities
  • Unpredictable strong emotions outbursts
  • Licks or chews on non-food items
  • Excessive seeking of touch input
